Two poachers killed in Orang National Park

Guwahati, July 29 (IBNS) : Two poachers were killed in an encounter with forest guards in Assam's Orang Rajiv Gandhi National Park on Wednesday late night, a top official said.
According to forest officials, the incident to place at Raumari Chapori inside the National Park around 11:45 pm on Wednesday.
The forest officials had specific information that,a four-member group of poachers entered the park for rhino poaching.
''We alerted all the forest guards and launched an operation against the poachers,'' Orang National Park Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sushil Kumar Daila said.
''We moved our armed forest guards to all existing routes of the park and successed in searching the location, where the poachers had taken shelter. When the poachers tried to escape, we fired. Bullets were exchanged for half an hour,'' he said.
''Two poachers were killed on the spot, while the other two managed to flee from the spot with help of darkness,'' said Daila.
Forest guards recovered one 303 rifle, a 7.65 pistol, 10 rounds of 303 rifle ammunition, and three rounds of 9 mm pistol empty cartridge from the slain poachers.
