New Delhi, July 27 (IBNS): In a bid to send a strong message to his fellow officers, Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal reportedly sent a message to the security branch stating his Personal Security Officers (PSOs) should be withdrawn.
The move comes when Dadwal completed a three-year tenure as Delhi’s top cop.
Sources said the five sub-inspectors — all probationary — who were deputed with him as PSOs, will now be deputed to other departments. This is the first time a Delhi Police Commissioner has taken such a step.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Security) Taj Hasan said, “I don’t know the reason behind this, but he has surrendered his PSOs Monday onwards.”
Dadwal said, “I have Z-category security and wanted to make some changes within the category, for which I took this step.” ‘
He added that he will still have Z-category security.
Dadwal has also reduced the number of wireless operators working for the police commissioner.
“We don’t know whether this has been done to serve as a lesson to others or some other reason, but we ended the deputation of the PSOs from Monday,” an officer posted with the security wing said.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had turned down the enhancement of his security cover to Z-category in December 2008.
