Russia threatens travel advisory over rape

New Delhi, Jan 27 (IBNS) The Russian embassy in New Delhi has threatened to issue a travel advisory to its citizens against India if crimes against its nationals did not stop in places like Goa, TV reports said.


Russian reaction came after a 9-year-old girl from Russia was raped by suspected Indian tourists in a sea beach in Goa on Tuesday.

“We are very much concerned. This is not the first one. We don’t see any politics in this. We don’t see Russian citizens are aim, but we are concerned,” Sergey V Karmarlito, Senior Counselor, Russian Embassy, told Times Now in New Delhi.

He said the authorities in Goa should ensure a fast investigation and bring the result to the people.

“Steps should be taken against the criminals,” he said.

A nine-year-old girl from Russia was raped by two suspected Indian tourists at Arambol beach in north Goa on Tuesday eveing, report said.

The girl was with her mother but she was raped when here mother was not around.

The assault of the nine-year-old followed a huge outcry over the recent incident of rape a Russian woman by a Goa politician.

"It is a rape," said Vikram Verma, counsel of Russian Consulate on the matter.

Goa police suspected that the crime an act by Indian tourists and a manhunt was launched to nab them, police reportedly said.

Earlier, Goa politician John Fernandes was accused of raping a Russian woman on Dec 1, 2009.

A peeved Russian envoy to India had criticized the Indian authorities for their "insensitive" stance on the rape of the Russian girl in Goa and demanded punishment of the guilty.

Goa, a tourist magnet, is tainted by incidents of rape and killing of tourists in the recent years.
