FLASH: Boxer Vijender ensures medal for India
Beijing, Aug 20: India could not have bargained for more. On a day grappler Sushil Kumar won a bronze, boxer Vijender Kumar assured a bronze and went to the semifinals keeping hope alive for a higher glory.
Vijender Kumar assured India of a medal after beating Ecuador’s Carlos Gongora in the middleweight (75kg) category to move into the semifinals of the event at the Olympics here Wednesday.
Vijender opened an early 2-0 lead in the first round and consistently increased the margin to beat Gongora in a lopsided quarterfinal clash at the Worker’s Gymnasium.
