Srinagar, Mar 19 (IBNS) Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said no militant activities have been reported from the areas where army was vacated so far.
"We have phased out 35,000 army jawans from the state. There camps have been wound up and they have been shifted to some other part of the country. During my tenure, so far, number of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) has also been reduced,” said Abdullah.
“We didn't raise any hue and cry about it and it did not impact the situation at all. There hasn't been any spurt in militancy from the areas where the army has been vacated," he said.
He further said: “We won’t construct any permanent structures as bunkers for the security forces in the valley.”
Meanwhile, the chief minister said not just the militants, Jammu and Kashmir government is mulling rehabilitating the ‘stone-pelters’ also.
“Rehabilitation of stone pelters is in the offing. We have not announced any policy in this regard outside the Assembly .If those holding guns can be rehabilitated, why not stone pelters? They are ours. I do not want to arrest anyone (stone pelters), but I am forced to take such steps,” said Abdullah.
Stone-pelting has turned into an ‘industry’ in the state, with separatists and other trouble-makers employing youths by paying money for throwing stones during rallies and other occasions.
The government was forced to crack the whip against these stone-pelters and hundreds of them were recently arrested and slapped with charges of damaging public property and threatening public safety.
