New Delhi, March 19 (IBNS) A teenager was killed in a road accident while he was on his way to home after watching an IPL match, the police confirmed on Friday.
Harshit, 13, was returning home after watching Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Daredevils at the Ferozeshah Kotla. The deadly car crash took place early Thursday morning at the high-security Janpath-Rajpath when an overspeeding Lancer car — whose occupants too were returning from the IPL match — collided side-on with the Wagon R in which Harshit was travelling.
‘‘The car turned thrice 360 degree before finally crashing. Harshit was sitting near the rear window and the door got unlocked and he fell off the car and was crushed to death,’’ said Harshit’s relative.
Shankar Dass, additional commissioner of police (New Delhi district), said that the Lancer car was coming from the National Museum side and moving towards Le Meridian Hotel while the Wagon R was moving from Vijay Chowk towards India Gate.
‘There were four occupants in the Wagon R — deceased Harshit Yadav (13), his brother Hitesh Yadav (19), his cousin Deepanshu alias Nonu Yadav (23), who was driving the car, and Deepanshu’s friend Lal Srikant (22).
The Lancer was being driven by one Saurav Jain (22), a resident of Jain Colony in Veer Nagar close to Rana Pratap Bagh in northwest Delhi. He has been arrested.
Mohit Jain (28), Sachit Jain (30) and Ankur Jain (25) — all relatives — were also injured.
Police have registered a case of negligent driving against the driver of Lancer. The Wagon R has been completely destroyed in the accident.
All the injured were rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital while Harshit was declared brought dead.
