'Zero tolerance towards armed forces '

New Delhi, Feb 13 (IBNS) Reacting to the killing of a teenager by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju on Saturday said the government has a zero tolerance policy towards the armed forces in the state.
“We have a zero tolerance policy. Any aberration will be dealt in strong manner,” he told reporters.
Sixteen-year-old Zahid Farooq was killed when BSF opened fire on a group in Nishat area of Srinagar on Feb 6.
The BSF admitted the killing later.
BSF constable Lakhvinder Kumar, who allegedly gunned down the teenager, may have been ordered to fire by his commanding office, media reports said on Saturday.
During his interrogation, Kumar reportedly told police that the commanding officer of 68th BSF Battalion R K Birdi forced him to fire on Sheikh.
Sheikh was killed when a bullet fired by the BSF jawan from his AK 47 rifle hit him. The boy's killing sparked widespread protests in the area.
