Women's Bill: 'All parties will be consulted'

New Delhi, Mar 11 (IBNS) Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said all parties will be consulted before bringing the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha.
“The government will consult all parties before bringing the Bill in the Lok Sabha. The government wants to have consulations with all parties to build consensus,” Mukherjee said here on Thursday.
"I think, this assurance would assuage the feelings of all members and the business would be conducted smoothly," he said after the Lok Sabha was adjourned Thursday afternoon.
"I would like to inform members that it has been agreed to conduct smooth business of the House for the remaining period," Mukherjee said, "I would request colleagues to help the Chair to conduct normal business.”
However, according to reports, Women's Reservation Bill is unlikely to be tabled in the Lok Sabha before the house goes for three week long recess.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2pm on Thursday following an uproar in the House by opposers of the Women's Reservation Bill.
Peace prevailed in the Rajya Sabha after initial chaos over the Women's Reservation Bill. The upper house had to be adjourned twice on Thursday morning.
Earlier in the Lok Sabha, the finance minister said the PM is ready for all an party meeting on Women’s Reservation Bill.
"All issues can be discussed in the House," he said.
Speaking at the House earlier, Rastriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav said the Congress will shed tears over the Women's Bill later.
RJD, Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party (SP) and BSP are opposing the Women's Bill in its current form.
"They are eating onion for the first time. They will cry later," Lalu said in his trademark style.
"We must give rights to Muslim women, rural women and Dalits. The Bill ignores Dalit women," he said, adding that an all party meeting on the isue is required.
Lalu also thanked Trinamool chief and railway minister Mamata Banerjee for her stand on the Bill.
"Many Congress and BJP MPs are unhappy with the Bill," he added.
Sharad Yadav also pressed for an all party meet on the issue.
The Women's Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
