New Delhi, Mar 11 (IBNS) Shahzad, the arrested terrorist accused in the 2008 Delhi series blasts, has reportedly named Samajwadi Party MP Abu Azmi as the man who helped him with his stay in Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, the Indian Mujahideen terrorist said Abu Azmi is one of the two politicians who helped him in India.
“Azmi helped me to stay at Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh,” Shahzad reportedly said on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party sources said Azmi has denied all allegations.
Shahzad alias Pappu was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police's Anti Terror Squad from Khalispur village in Azamgarh district on Feb 1.
The militant confessed that he was part of the Batla House encounter and planted a bomb at the India Gate during the attack on the national capital on September 13, 2008.
Police claimed Shazad was chief of the Indian Mujahideen's air terror module and had been planning an air strike in India.
The terrorist, who had a Rs 5 lakh award on his head, recently also trained to fly planes in Bangalore, reports said.
He was also in touch with Hizbul Mujahideen leader Mirza Shahdab Baig. Baig has been involved in all major terror attacks in the country since May 2005.
