AHRC concerned over Manipur situation

Imphal, May 10 (IBNS): The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) Monday expressed grave concern over the ongoing economic blockade in Manipur and has dashed off an urgent letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, seeking his immediate intervention.
Pointing that even emergency services in hospitals in the capital city Imphal have been hit in view of the acute shortage of medicines and nasal cannual oxygen due to the blockade, the AHRC said if the situation persists, the miseries of the people of the state will multiply.
The economic blockade has been enforced by All Naga Student Association Manipur (ANSAM) and others since April 11 against the state government’s notification for holding elections to the autonomous hill district councils in Manipur. The state government issued another notification for the first phase of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections in Manipur on 26 April 2010.
Naga organisations consider the ADC election as a threat to their claim for 'Greater Nagalim', an independent status within India merging neighbouring states into one entity with Naga racial supremacy.
The state-wide strike has blocked roads and highways, national highway 39 and 53, which are the only lifeline of Manipur, and has resulted in acute shortage of food, medicine and other essential commodities in the state.
Vehicle, including the inter-state and inter-district transport, are off the road as the fuel stations closed since weeks, the AHRC pointed.
The rights body also criticized the government’s failure to check the escalation of tension over a proposed visit of Naga rebel leader Th. Muivah to his birthplace Somdal in Manipur.
Muivah had tried to visit Manipur in spite of a ban on his entry by the state government, though the Centre had cleared his visit.
At least two persons were killed and over 50 injured in a scuffle at Mao in Manipur-Nagaland border over his visit, which has now been put on hold.
“The situation in the state is extremely volatile and with the slightest provocation, an internal conflict may breakout. If this happens it could spread to a large area and destabilise the whole region. So far, neither the state nor the Union Government has taken any action to prevent the impending danger,” the AHRC said.

Is Muivah's right more important and supreme than the rights of those 1000 innocent kukies he killed during the ethnic clensing progom he has let loose in the 90's. GOI has been tricked by Muivah. He knew verywell that he is not welcomed in Manipur. The GOI is also feigning ignorance of the crime against humanity committed by Muivah because their intention in talking with Muivah after all is also not holy. The results are clear now- for all to see - to the other two communities in Manipur, he is but a criminal who kills and divides the people of Manipur. Wherever he goes he causes problems!!

The ongoing economic blockade has untold suffering to the people of the state.Lack of food oils, oxygen, life saving drugs has virtually make Manipur a war zone. The ATSUM leaders should be charged for crime against humanity. They have been resorting to this economic repressive measures for the last many years. If they have any problem with any Govt.regulations they can approach the judiciary for relief. The Central Govt should immediately intervene to resolve the crisis and the elected Govt of Ibobi singh should not bow to this pressure tactic and go ahead with the ADC polls.

Why is it that the AHRC did not point out the violation of human rights when the security forces of Manipur killed two innocent student's lives and injured many woman and children in Senapati dist? Moreover Govt.of Manipur is violating the UN declaration of human rights by denying the bonafide individual from visiting his birth place Ukhrul dist.
