Dutch Paedophile granted bail

Chennai, Feb 9 (IBNS) A Chennai court Tuesday granted bail to Dutch child sex offender Will Heum, who was arrested a few months back under the IT Act.
According to media reports, Heum was granted bail as the police could not file a chargesheet againt him within 80 days after his arrest.
His bail plea was rejected quite a few times before.
The 56-year-old was arrested on November 7 following an Interpol police alert. He is also accused of uploading child pornographic material on the Internet.
The case against Heum has been registered under the new IT Act, which came into force on October 27. If convicted, he will face a maximum punishment of seven years' imprisonment and Rs 10 lakh fine.
A 2002 case against Heum is also pending trial. In this case, he was accused of molesting 40 orphans at Little Home, an orphanage opened by him in Mamallapuram.
Heum, who came to India 30 years ago and started "social work", stayed in Mamallapuram, where he befriended several children and started the orphanage.
