Jaipur, Mar 13 (IBNS): At least 29 poor tribal girls were rescued in a raid at an illegal child home in Rajasthan's capital on Tuesday, reports said.

Besides being illegal, the child home housed the poor girls, aged between five and fourteen, in bitter conditions, with no schooling and tuition.

However, these poor Christian girls were reportedly brought from the Northeast to Grace Home in the Jaipur with commitments of education, food and care.

They were not even allowed to meet their parents and were being brought up amid hundreds of empty liquor bottles, rotting vegetables in the store, one broken toilet and just one room, said reports.

It was when one child died in this Christian home, that parents began complaining, and the Child Rights Commission then surveyed this home for a month.

On Tuesday, they carried out a raid with the help of the police and Jacob John, who single-handedly ran this home, was taken in police custody for questioning, as well.

"They stay in the hall and study by themselves. The older children teach the younger ones... there is no female warden or domestic help to take care of them... no registration papers," Chairperson of Child Rights Commission, Rajasthan, Deepak Kalra was quoted as saying in TV channels.

John, reportedly runs a similar home for boys as well in another part of Jaipur and 15 young boys have been rescued from there.

While, the children have now been shifted to different shelters in the city, they will have to undergo medical check-ups and counselling, said reports.

Initial reports also suggest that Grace Home was funded by foreign volunteers and therefore, the police is now investigating on the funding sources.
