Ahmedabad, Nov 30 (IBNS): Congress candidate Shweta Bhatt, wife of suspended Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, filed her nomination papers from Maninagar assembly constituency in Ahmedabad on Friday.

The Congress has fielded her to contest against Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly polls.

Speaking to media, Shweta Bhatt said: "I am going to fight against Modi from Maninagar on a Congress ticket."

Pertinently, Maninagar is a seat from where the chief minister won by a huge margin in 2007.

Meanwhile the BJP criticised Sanjiv Bhatt on the issue.

"Sanjiv Bhatt's so called fight has been exposed. It was not a legal fight. He was actually fighting on behalf of the Congress," BJP Mahila Morcha president Smriti Irani told media.

She said: "I feel that Sanjiv Bhatt's acts have been exposed in front of Indian citizens."

"He was against Narendra Modi as he was motivated by political greed," Irani said.

The IPS officer was suspended after he took on Modi, accusing him of asking the police to go slow on Hindus during the 2002 riots that killed 1,200.

He was also arrested by Gujarat police for 'trying to create evidence against Modi'.

Modi is looking at a third consecutive term as Gujarat chief minister.

Voting will take place in Gujarat on Dec 13 and 17. The votes will be counted on Dec 20.
