New Delhi, Nov 30 (IBNS): Debate on the issue of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail under Rule 168 is all set to take place in the Rajya Sabha on Dec 6 and 7, reports said on Friday.
Petinently, the debate under Rule 168 entails voting.
The debate with voting on the same issue will take place in the Lok Sabha on Dec 4 and 5.
The deadlock in both Houses of the Parliament over FDI in multi-brand retail ended on Thursday as the Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman allowed debate on the issue under rules that entail voting.
After an all-party meeting, Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari allowed the debate under Rule 168.
Ansari called the all-party meeting on Thursday in order to resolve the deadlock on FDI after the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till Friday following an uproar over the SC/ST quota.
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on the same day announced that a discussion, followed by voting on FDI, will take place.
"I have received 30 notices for discussion on FDI in multi-brand retail under Rule 184. I have admitted the motion to allow the discussion," Kumar said in the House.
However, adding pressure on the government, the Samajwadi Party (SP) said it will vote against FDI in multi-brand retail in the Rajya Sabha.
"We will vote against FDI in the Rajya Sabha," SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav told media.
SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav kept the government guessing and said: "In politics, you wait for the right opportunity and only then take the decision. There should be serious discussion on the matter."
