New Delhi, Nov 26 (IBNS) Defence Minister AK Antony on Monday said as many as 21 army officers,instead of families of the Kargil martyrs, were allotted flats at Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society in Mumbai.
"Defence land is not being allotted to individuals/societies for construction of house for services/ex-service personnel. However, the State Government of Maharashtra had allotted land at Colaba, Mumbai measuring about 3824 square meters, which was in possession of Army since long, to Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society," Antony said in the Lok Sabha.
"Allegations with regard to allotment of land to Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society, Mumbai were entrusted to CBI by the Government for thorough investigation. After investigation a charge sheet has been filed against certain persons."
"Twenty-One serving/retired Army officers were allotted flats in the Adarsh Housing Society," he said.
The 30-storey apartment, housing many top level defence officials, was built on a disputed army land at Colaba and it is alleged that the flats meant for the families of the Kargil martyrs were allotted to top defence officials and kins of politicians.
