Shimla, Dec 25 (IBNS): Congress leader Virbhadra Singh took oath as the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh for the sixth time at Ridge Maidan here on Tuesday.
Governor Urmila Singh administered the oath of office.
Five-time Parliamentarian, Singh, 78, has served five terms as the chief minister of the Himalayan state between 1983 and 2007.
Earlier this year, he had to resign as chief minister following corruption allegations leveled against him.
The veteran Congress leader on Thursday sailed back to power in the hill state, scoring a wafer-thin majority of 36 in the 68-member Assembly attributed mainly to an anti-incumbency wave.
Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal managed to score only 26 seats for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), bogged down by severe infighting and rebel candidates.
Singh, referred to as the Raja of Rampur, won from Shimla (Rural).
The Independents, won five seats while Himachal Lokhit Party (HLP) floated by BJP dissidents won one seat.
Dhumal conceded defeat and said the party would 'analyse' the assembly polls result.
Polling was held on November 4 in Himachal Pradesh and the results were declared on November 20.
