Ahmedabad, Dec 21 (IBNS): After scripting a significant victory at the Gujarat assembly polls on Thursday, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state for the third time on Dec 26, reports said on Friday.

Following constitution of the new House, Modi on Friday went to Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar to submit his resignation and that of his council of ministers to Governor Kamla Beniwal.

The Governor had dismissed the out-going assembly on Thursday after the results of the assembly elections were declared.

According to reports, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa might attend the swearing-in ceremony of Modi that is likely to take place in Ahmedabad's Sardar Patel Stadium.

Living up to all expectations and beating all hurdles, Modi won a sweeping victory in Gujarat with the BJP bagging 116 of the 182 seats while Congress followed as a distant second with 60 seats, a performance poorer than its last show in 2007 though it increased the tally by one seat.

The Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) of Keshubhai Patel, which is seen as a spoiler by the BJP after the latter broke ranks with the saffron party and formed his own outfit, got only two seats.
