Kolkata, Nov 20 (IBNS) Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said she is ready to support and talk to any party, including her arch rival CPI-M, on the issue of no-confidence motion in Parliament against the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
"We will support if the Left brings a no-confidence motion," said Mamata Banerjee, amid reports that not many parties are willing to support her no-trust motion against the government which it has proposed to bring on Nov 22 on the very first day of winter session of Parliament.
Surprising all, Mamata Banerjee said she can even go to the Communist Party of India-Marxist (M) for support.
CPI-M is an arch foe of Mamata Banerjee and last year it defeated a 34 year old CPI-M led Left government in West Bengal to come to power after years of struggle against the communists.
Banerjee earlier spoke to Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta and requested him for their support.
"I have told Gurudas Dasgupta that if the CPI-M cannot back a TMC no confidence, then they can ask CPI-M to bring a no-confidence motion which TMC will support," she said.
Mamata said it is not right to just create fear over Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coming to power each time to allow a corrupt government to function.
"Double speak and double faces in politics is not right. We do not support the ideology of BJP. But there is no point in always condoning corruption in the name of BJP phobia," she told reporters, indirectly targetting parties like CPI-M.
"By showing BJP as a force to be feared, you cannot promote corruption," she said.
CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat earlier told a TV channel that they would not support a TMC motion since the latter does not have numbers and if defeated the move would be like endorsing the government and give it a leeway to go ahead with what it wants.
Meanwhile, TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O'Brien is in New Delhi and he would be meeting various political parties. A lot can happen over coffee, he tweeted, indicating the consultations scheduled over the no-trust vote.
Mamata Banerjee with her 19 lawmakers in Parliament walked out of the UPA over the economic reforms, especially over the issue of FDI in multi-brand retail, in September.
Trinamool Congress leaders earlier told IBNS they have invited all political parties to support them when they move the no confidence motion in parliament on November 22.
TMC lawmaker Kalyan Banerjee said bringing the no-trust motion is not difficult for Trinamool Congress procedure wise.
"We have 19 lawmakers ourselves. An SUCI [Socialist Unity Centre of India, which is a poll ally of the Trinamool] lawmaker has also pledged support, taking our number to 20," said Banerjee.
Trinamool needs the support of at least 50 parliamentarians to move the motion and the party leaders earlier had claimed they would garner that support without much difficulty.
Trinamool said it already has the support of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) with two lawmakers.
Mamata Banerjee on Saturday also claimed that parties like DMK (the biggest ally of UPA after Trinamool walked out), Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (which are supporting the government from outside) are not happy with the government's anti-people policies.
