New Delhi, Nov 18 (IBNS): Police have detained at least 15 people in connection with the death of liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep, who were killed in a shootout between their groups inside their farmhouse at Chattarpur in south Delhi on Saturday, reports said on Sunday.

Police have mostly detained the security personnel of the two brothers and kept them at the Mehrauli Police Station for questioning.

The police might make some more arrests in the connection, reports said.

The brothers, who were accompanied by their men, met at the farmhouse over a property dispute and their meeting which started peacefully turned ugly later, NDTV reported quoting sources.

Police sources told media that Hardeep first shot Chadha and the liquor baron's gunmen fired back at him.

Ponty was brought to hospital at around 1 pm where he was declared dead.

According to reports, 12 bullet wounds were found in Chadha's body while his brother got four wounds.

Chanda's employee, who was identified as Narender, was also injured in the shootout. He also underwent surgery in a hospital.

The bodies of both brothers were sent to AIIMS for post mortem.

Ponty's business empire is worth Rs 6000 crore.

"There was a family dispute that was there," Gaurav Kanth, who was lawyer of Ponty's brother Hardeep, earlier said. He said there were issues but he was not sure of what exactly caused a flash point.

On Oct 5, a firing was reported from a house owned by the Uttar Pradesh liquor baron in his Moradabad house.

Chadha, who was 55, ruled the liquor trade in Uttar Pradesh and he was controversial too and known for enjoying special favours during the regime of former UP chief minister Mayawati. He was also close to the Samajwadi Party, reports said.

There were allegations that he bought liquor at cheap rates and sold them later at a premium.

Chadha was also a real estate baron and was in news after the Supreme Court issued a notice to the UP government on land allotments in Noida.

Chadha and his two brothers owned the Chadha Group, which was consolidated under the Wave brand.
