Mumbai, Dec 12 (IBNS): The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday said the party was not 'power hungry' and there were no questions of it joining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that is led by 'communal forces'.
The NCP made the comments a day after Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi invited Union Agriculture Minister and party supremo Sharad Pawar to join the NDA.
Rejecting the invitation, NCP spokesman Nawab Malik told media: "There is no question of NCP joining the NDA led by communal forces."
"We are not power hungry and will always stick to our secular credentials," Malik said.
Joshi on Tuesday invited Pawar to join the NDA and said the Union Minister could become the Prime Minister.
Speaking to reporters in Pune, Joshi said: "Pawar should join NDA in order to end quarrels within the BJP-led alliance and bring together all factions. If he joins NDA then he can also become the Prime Minister."
The NCP is a key constituent of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
The Shiv Sena on the other hand is an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA.
