Karachi, Nov 10 (IBNS): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is on a visit to Karachi city along with a 12-member delegation in an effort to strengthen ties between the two nuclear-powered countries, on Saturday visited the mausoleum of Mohammad Ali Jinnah and paid homage to Pakistan's founding father.

Paying tribute to Jinnah, Kumar placed floral wreaths at the mazar.

He was accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

Kumar said both India and Pakistan should work together.

Speaking to reporters, the Bihar CM said: "I believe that Pakistan and India need to work together and exist peacefully with each other. This will not only guarantee prosperity and development for both countries but also for the entire region."

Shah said both nations 'share a lot in common in culture and traditions and we need to build on this'.

"I invited Mr Kumar to visit our province because I believe that the more we have such visits between provincial heads it will increase cooperation between the two nations," he said.

Kumar was accorded a red carpet welcome as he arrived in Karachi on Friday on a week-long visit. Shah received him at the airport.

For moving around Pakistan's financial hub, Kumar has been given a black bulletproof limo that President Zardari uses when he is in Karachi.

Moreover, the five-star hotel in which he will be staying at over the next three days has been transformed into a fortress.

Speaking at Jinnah International Airport shortly after landing, Kumar said such exchange of delegations will improve relations between India and Pakistan.

"Peace, brotherhood and development is the call of the people in both the countries and that is why I am here,” Kumar was quoted as saying.

The security accorded to Kumar and his delegation becomes all the more significant considering the fact that Karachi has been experiencing violence at regular intervals in the recent past.
