New Delhi, Dec 4 (IBNS) The Shiv Sena has backed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as National Democratic Alliance (NDA)'s Prime Ministerial candidate for 2014 general elections.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut told media: "We have no problem if Modi is declared as the NDA's PM candidate."
Pertinently, the Shiv Sena is a key partner of the Bharatiya Janaya Party (BJP)-led NDA.
The Shiv Sena made the comments days after BJP leaders Gopinath Munde and Sushma Swaraj batted for Modi as the main opposition party's prime ministerial candidate for the general elections.
"Narendra Modi is capable of becoming PM...He has potential of becoming PM," Munde said in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Munde's comment came a day after Swaraj's first open endorsement for Modi during her visit to canvas for the party in Gujarat ahead of the Assembly polls.
"There is no two opinion that he is most capable and ideal candidate to be the Prime Minister of India," she said.
"He has done great work in Gujarat," said Swaraj.
The candidature of Modi as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate for 2014 is a debatable issue owing to protests by other NDA partners like Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) , but with Swaraj naming him, the support in favour of Modi only swelled.
Earlier suspended BJP leader Ram Jethmalani spoke in favour of Modi.
