New Delhi, Mar 3 (IBNS) Lieutenant General Bikram Singh, the 59-year-old Eastern Army Commander, will be the next Army chief succeeding General VK Singh, officials said on Saturday.
He will take over on May 31, 2012, said a defence ministry spokesperson here.
Lt Gen Bikram Singh in April 2010 took over as the General Officer Commanding –In-Chief of the Eastern Command in Kolkata.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, he was commissioned into the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in 1972. He is a Post Graduate from the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. Lt Gen Bikram Singh has done Higher Command Course at Mhow and US Army War College, Pennsylvania USA.
He has also held some important staff appointments at Army Headquarters, which include, two tenures each in the Directorate General of Military Operations and the Directorate General of Perspective Planning.
He is married to Mrs Bubbles Singh who is deeply involved in the welfare and empowerment of Army wives.
Outgoing Army Chief General V K Singh was locked in a bitter legal battle with the government over his age row but the Supreme Court disposed of his petition and it directed him to accept May 10, 1950 as his date of birth.
The army chief decided not to press the matter further.
Singh, in an unprecedented move, had taken the government to Supreme Court after his statutory complaint before defence minister A K Antony with his demand was rejected.
Singh, who is slated to retire on May 31, 2012, could have been in service until March 31, 2013 if his contention was upheld.
He claimed that his year of birth is 1951 and not 1950 as recorded by the Ministry of Defence, saying that the error cropped up due to a clerk who had listed his age as 16 instead of 15 in the Union Public Services (UPSC) examination form for National Defence Academy.

| A U.S. admiral when disclosing that U.S. special forces are stationed in India said they are 'not necessarily Department of Defense' but other agencies. These are CIA teams with the mission of snatching or neutralizing India's nuclear warheads, as similar CIA teams successfully did in Pakistan. Unless India's nuclear forces trigger India's nuclear warheads emplaced in New Delhi, Washington and New York without further delay (see my blog 'Nuclear Supremacy For India Over U.S.' which can be found by a Yahoo/Google search with the title), the result will be worse than in Pakistan because India's RAW and other forces work for the CIA .
I have said Bikram Singh, who has been designated as the Army chief beginning May 31 '12 is a CIA-RAW man and that must not be allowed. India's CIA-RAW government has been in a hurry to bring him in as Army Chief to try and take India's nuclear warheads away from patriotic hands and in the hands of traitors. Satish Chandra
