JPC to be sole steel data collection agency

Kolkata, Mar 1 (IBNS): The Ministry of Steel has proposed a Joint Plant Committee (JPC) to be made the authorized agency to collect and disseminate data under the Collection of Statistics Act 2008. This was revealed by G K Basak, executive secretary of the committee here on Monday.
Ranen Nag, executive director (warehousing) SAIL, the chief guest for the function and Basak handed over an ambulance and hospital laundry equipment, worth Rs. 7 lakh, to Ramkrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhawan at a programme at Tyagraj Hall in the city.
The Collection of Statistics Act 2008 seeks to facilitate the collection of statistics on economic, demographic, social, scientific and environmental aspects. Singling out JPC to be the official data collection authority under this Act lays a great responsibility on JPC and also affirms its credibility, a release said.
JPC, operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Steel, acts as a facilitator for the Indian steel Industry. It is the statutory authority for data collection and collects monthly data from over five thousand domestic steel production units. In most segments, data collection is over 75 per cent thereby making this the only definitive data on Indian steel industry.
Senior officials from leading steel companies and consuming sectors including Piyush Gupta, Chief, Marketing & Sales (LP) Tata Steel, Rajeev Singhal, Chief, Marketing & Sales (FP), Tata Steel, A Srivastav, Director, Railway Board and Shri S K Chakravarty, Regional Manager, RINL attended the programme.
