You started your career in Bollywood, then went to the South and now you are back to the Hindi Film industry. How will you describe your career graph?
Thankfully it (career graph) looks quite an interesting one (smiles). But honestly, I didn't plan this…it just happened that I got and getting offers from both Bollywood and the South Indian film industry. I feel really lucky…it's not that every new actor gets to experience the best of both world's simultaneously.
Which industry suits you the most-Bollywood or the South?
An actor can't afford to choose industries if he/she is really interested in doing good films. I have never analysed the two film industries. I am extremely happy to get so many good offers and that too so early in my career.
After ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’, you have become a star overnight…
I still don't think I am a ‘star’…I can't afford star tantrums. I am too simple to throw attitude. But yes, ‘Jaane Tu…’ is definitely a milestone in my career. And I want to be known as a good actor than a star.
Be it ‘Masti’ or ‘Mere Baap Pehle Aap’ or ‘Jaane Tu…’ or ‘Life Partner’ or the forthcoming ‘Hook Ya Crook’, all your films are light-heated romantic films. Are you more comfortable handling this genre than serious ones?
Well, I didn't choose these films because of their genre, but for the storylines. I have just stated my career and hope will get plenty scope to experiment with all genres. And then, on second thoughts, there is nothing wrong in playing fun-loving girl-next-door as long as my fans support me.
But don't you think it will be difficult to break this tag if you carry on for long with it?
I don't think so. There are many actors who started out with a particular genre and then switched to another one. Spontaneity is the key to success for all actors.
But Bollywood is all about complications…the competition, backbiting and all…
Why only Bollywood, competition and backbiting is in every profession. Personally I believe its always good to compete-but with own self. If you waste time thinking about others’ achievements, then you will never be able to concentrate in your own thing.
What kind of a person are you in real life?
I am a fun-loving girl who enjoys every moment of life, at the same time value my traditions and family. I hate complications.
What is your fashion statement?
I used to wear at least 50 friendship bands of all colours in each hand when in college. It was my fashion statement then. Now I am obsessed with shoes…keds, heels…every footwear. And I love trying different kinds of belts. I collect glares too; my hot favs are Giorgio Armani and funky Ed Hardy pairs.
Media buzz says you and Riteish Deshmukh are a couple. True?
Having a cup of coffee with your friend does not necessary mean that you are going around with him. It’s so boring and irritating to keep on justifying and clarifying gossips!
What sort of guy you are looking for, then?
I don't have big expectations from anyone as long as we understand each other. But seriously, I am not at all thinking about marriage…not even an affair at the moment. I just want to focus on my career.
